Mary H. (Connolly) Johnson, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at her home in Charlestown following a valiant struggle with cancer. She was 80 years old.
Mary was born in Boston on March 27, 1934, a daughter of the late John Connolly and Margaret N. (Baker) Connolly. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1952. Mary worked for several years as a lunch monitor at the Bunker Hill School in Charlestown before she began working at Boston City Hall as a clerk in the Registry of Birth Department for over 25 years. Mary enjoyed her Wednesday night bowling league and her most precious time in her life was the quality time she spent with her family and friends.
Mary is the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Johnson. She is the devoted mother of Thomas J. Johnson Jr. and his wife Judy of Charlestown, Michael P. Johnson of Charlestown and the late Daniel J. Johnson. She is the beloved mother-in-law of Christine Johnson of Charlestown. She is the loving Grandma to Christina, Kellie Ann, Thomas, Matthew, Kelsey, Daniel and her great-grandson Aiden James Ward. She is the beloved sister of Peggy Van Gorder, James Connolly, Barbara Swales, Gerty Keough, George Connolly and the late Loretta Blalock, John Connolly and Joseph Connolly. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, her beloved dog Benji and best friend Shirley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Friday, January 16, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
