Long ago, do you remember when life was so much simpler then The ice truck chugging up the street his cold and slippery icy treat
REMEMBER
Dirty feet and banged up knees the price you payed for climbing trees The tall green grass--such lofty spears where you could hide when there were tears The games we played on summer nights our cheating always started fights I still remember how we ran re-le-vo, tag, and kick the can Aggies, jump rope, hide and seek giant steps, hop scotch, jump the creek
REMEMBER
A favorite place beside a brook a cloudless sky a shady nook Where you could sit and feel forlorn or maybe where a dream was born And lightening bugs a sheer delight they kept you busy half the night To shove into a jar took skill can you imagine what a thrill? The hot sun beating on your back as you jumped ties on a rail road track The screen door banging in the breeze the golden rod that made you sneeze Homemade root-beer foamy brown instant mixes weren't around Stolen apples from a tree tasted great cause they were free The swimming hole a lovely place the splash of water on your face You'd hold your nose and dive so deep while round your legs the grass would creep
REMEMBER
The lonely tree hut in the woods our lives were then like Robin Hoods We had no windows just a roof it wasn't even water-proof Splinters we would get galore sliding down the cellar door As we got a little older some of us got a little bolder The day we broke the fire alarm we didn't really mean no harm On a rainy, stormy day the attic was the place to play The phonograph you cranked by hand the treasures from another land The hushed dark corners a spell would weave a tales were told--we all believed We never lacked for things to do imagination saw us through Yesterday's summer, all but gone nostalgia beckons from another dawn.
