Muriel I. Flaherty, 91, of Derry, formerly of Methuen, passed away peacefully at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry on Monday, January 12, 2015.
The daughter of the late Ernest and Delia (Cavanaugh) Turcotte, Muriel was born in Methuen on June 19, 1923. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Grammar School and Searles High School, both in Methuen. She was employed as a bookkeeper in the local shoe industry, as well as a clerk with the Internal Revenue Service. She retired from the Methuen Public School System where she served as the School Secretary for several schools. She also owned and operated DonVille Campground on Province Lake in East Wakefield, New Hampshire, a place she absolutely loved to be. She was a long time parishioner of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish of Methuen, until its closing, and then was a member of St. Monica’s Parish. She resided in Methuen all of her life until moving to Derry several years ago.
Muriel was the beloved wife of the late Donald (Pat) J. Flaherty, who died in 1983. She was the devoted mother of Raymond Flaherty and his wife Charlene of Hampstead, NH and the late Donald J. Flaherty Jr. Muriel was the dear sister and best friend of Helen Vanasse of Methuen. She was predeceased by her brother Raymond Turcotte. She was the cherished grandmother of two grandchildren, Jennifer Bishop and her husband Derek of Waterboro, Maine and Patrick Flaherty and his wife, Anne, of Webster Grove, Missouri, as well as five great grandchildren. Muriel is survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
Friend and guest are invited to call on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 9:00 AM at St. Monica’s Parish of Methuen. Interment to follow at St. Mary/Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Lawrence.
