Charlton – Don Engstrom, 70, died peacefully on January 11, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, S. Jane Griesbach, daughter Caron and son-in-law Michael Rocha and two cherished grandsons, Jonathan and Jacob Rocha, father Russell Engstrom of Florida, along with many cousins and friends. He is pre-deceased by his mother Astrid Gustafson Engstrom. Don graduated from Clark University in Worcester. He served in the Navy as a Corpsman on the USS Sanctuary hospital ship during the Vietnam War. He was a Registered Medical Photographer and worked as the director of Medical Media at UMass Medical Center. Don was very active in the Episcopal Church and was a member of the Third Order of the Society of St. Francis. As a filmmaker for the missionary community of the Episcopal Church, Don traveled the world telling stories for those without a voice. In retirement he drove a school van for special needs children and loved the kids. He was a gentle, contemplative man with a huge heart. He was an avid birder, photographer, world traveler, animal lover, and faithful Christian. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society (www.massaudubon.org) or the Connect Africa Foundation (www.connect-africa.org). The funeral service will be Friday, Jan. 16, at Christ Episcopal Church, 1089 Stafford Street, Rochdale, MA, at 10am.
