ROSSI Arthur L. 92, of Weston and Marion, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2015 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Mary (Barberio) Rossi, his wife and best friend of 72 years. Father of Diane M. Stone of Needham, Arthur J. Rossi and his wife Kathleen of South Natick, Cindy R. Greenberg and her husband Eric of Weston, and Peter A. Rossi of Sudbury. Loving grandfather of Alexandra, Rebecca, Jessica, Emily, Molly, Liza, and Olivia. Great-grandfather of Jason, Leia, Luke, Ian, Brooklyn, and Sienna. Brother of Carol Opem of Downington, PA.
Born in Rimini, Italy, Arthur and his family immigrated to the United States in 1929 through Ellis Island, settling in Needham. Arthur graduated from Needham High School and Wentworth Institute. Arthur and Mary were married in 1942. Arthur loved craftsmanship and engineering – he built his home in Weston in 1951 with his father, and has lived there with Mary, just as he wanted, ever since. During WWll, he helped construct the battleship USS Massachusetts.
Arthur was the founder and retired chairman of American Equipment Sales Corp and Automatic Coin Laundry Systems of Waltham, which he founded in 1945. He was an early pioneer and an innovator in his industry.
Arthur was a kind and gentle soul whose warmth and generosity was felt by everyone he met. He and his wife were longtime members of the Weston Golf Club. He loved fishing and boating in the summer at their home in Marion. The most important aspect of his life, however, was his family. He was the quintessential family man, whose greatest pleasure was laughing with, living for and loving his entire family.
Visiting hours Friday from 4-8pm at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St. (Rt.16) Wellesley. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Julia Church in Weston on Saturday at 11am. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
