Obituary

Bruce Edward DeWitte, 62, of Franklin, died January 11 in Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston following a long illness. He was the husband of Susan L. (Hodgdon) DeWitte.
Born in Patterson, New Jersey, October 6,1952, the son of the late Russell and Caroline (Meyer) DeWitte, Mr. DeWitte was raised in Wayne, New Jersey and after many years in the Air Force he settled in Franklin in 1981.
Mr. DeWitte was a graduate of Wayne High School, and received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Lowell Technical and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Florida University.
Mr. DeWitte had worked for the General Dynamics Corporation as a project manager for five years and prior to that he had worked for GTE as an Electrical engineer for 20 years.
Mr. DeWitte served in the Air Force from 1974-1980 and then remained in the Air Force Reserves until 1992.
He attained the rank of Captain.
Bruce had been active in the Franklin Boy Scouts for many years and was proud that his three sons all became Eagle Scouts.
He became a minister later in his life and had been the local minister for the George Whitefield United Methodist Church in West Brookfield, Mass.
Bruce was a man of many interests, he enjoyed hydroponics, woodworking, doing all sort of home improvements, studying history, especially religious history.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Russell DeWitte and his wife Anastasiya of Mendon, David DeWitte and his wife Suzie of Holden and Daniel DeWitte and his wife Sarah of Litchfield, New Hampshire.
He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Taggert of Morris Plains, New Jersey, Carol Jean Brubaker of Towanda, Pennsylvania and Susan O’Donnell of Randolph, New Jersey.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary Bruce DeWitte and Savannah Grace DeWitte.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 15 in the South Walpole Methodist Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, in Bourne.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin.
