Rita C. Piotte, age 87, passed away on Jan. 8, 2015 at Wingate of South Hadley Nursing Home. She was born on June 6, 1927 in Chicopee, MA, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Florence (Auger) Piotte. Rita was a life long resident of Chicopee, she worked as an office secretary at Uniroyal for many years before she retired. Rita loved to travel and explore new places with her loyal circle of friends. Rita was very devout to her Catholic faith. She was a former communicant of St George Church in Chicopee and was a member of the Dominican Monastery of the Mother of God, Ladies Society. She leaves 3 sisters, Lucille Belanger and her husband Edward of Chicopee, Bette Currier and her husband John of Ludlow and Lorraine Currier and her husband Walter of Belchertown. She also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wed., Jan. 14, 2015 at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral from 9:30-10:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial in Assumption Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St Rose de Lima Cemetery.
