Etty "Etta" Dean (Whitehead) O'Connor, 90, of Anderson died January 10, 2015 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.
Etty was born October 12, 1924 in Boma, TN to John M. and Iona F. Whitehead; graduated from Baxter Seminary in 1942 and traveled to Detroit, MI and worked at Briggs Mfg. to 1942. She returned to Boma, TN until June 1946, then came to Anderson, IN and was employed with Delco Remy Division of General Motors 43 years and was a member of UAW Local 662.
She attended the South Meridian Church of God and was a life member of the Women of the Church of God. She attended the weekly meeting of the Agape Bible Study and Church Women United serving as Secretary for several years and received the Valiant Woman Award in 2006.
Being an avid bowler, she was inducted in the Bowling Hall of Fame on April 18, 2010. Her travels have been to all 50 state capitals and all of the continents.
She moved to Primrose Retirement Center in March of 2010.
She is survived by her children, daughter, Nancy (Mike) Hadley; son, Gary (Sue) O'Connor of Brownsburg, IN; granddaughter, Kacie (Michael) Weldy and great grandchildren, Katherine, Meaghan and Alex Weldy; sister, Bonnie Alma Fike of FL; brother, Johnnie Alva Whitehead of Baxter, TN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Wendell O'Connor whom she married on June 12, 1948 in Anderson; half brothers, Ralph and Pierce Fisher, sister, Mary Fern Alexander, brothers, Maxwell and Mark Whitehead.
Services will be 1 P.M. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Rev. Dale Landis officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 A.M. until the service with burial in East Maplewood Cemetery.
