Moffatt Hardeman “Hardy” Wylie, Jr.

On the morning of January 9, 2015, Hardy passed away at home after a 15 month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor. At the time of his passing, he was blessed to have his family by his side. Hardy was 75 years old.

Hardy was born on Christmas Day, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was the first child of Dr. Moffatt Hardeman “Hardt” Wylie, Sr. and Ethel von Poellnitz Wylie.

Hardy was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Moffatt Hardeman“Hardt” Wylie, Sr., and his brother, Ernest Miller “Teaky” Wylie.

Hardy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Christina Carlisle Wylie; his three children, Moffatt Hardeman “Trey” Wylie, III, Jane Seabrook “Brook” Wylie Wilson (Billy), and Wayne Carlisle Wylie (Mandy); his three grandchildren, Matt, Davis, and Hardy Wilson; his mother, Ethel von Poellnitz Wylie; and his brother, Dr. William Joseph Wylie.

Hardy grew up in Augusta, Georgia, graduated from Darlington Prep School, attended Davidson College where he was in the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity, and graduated from Augusta College. Before graduating college, Hardy served in the Army Reserves from 1962-1968. After college, he had a career in sales and management with Fisher Scientific Company. He retired in 2003 as Director of Electronic Commerce in Atlanta, Georgia. After retirement, Hardy and Chris moved back to Augusta, Georgia.

Hardy was an avid golfer, a lover of Edisto Beach, and an enthusiastic fan of University of Georgia football. He was a member of the Augusta Country Club, the Augusta Golf Association, the Clembake Golf Group, Forest Hills Seniors Golf Group, Bartram Trail Seniors Golf Group, ASU’s Birdie Club, and the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church and was honored to serve as a Deacon.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2261 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904 with Dr. Matthew Rich officiating. The Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Augusta Golf Association.

Beginning at 5:00 P.M. Thursday evening, friends and family are invited to toast Hardy and to celebrate his life at “The Abbey’s at West Lake” neighborhood clubhouse, 725 Glenn Abbey Drive, Martinez, GA 30907.

In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Golden Harvest Food Bank. A special thanks to Dr. Olivier Rixe (formerly of GRU Cancer Center) and the wonderful nurses and staff at MSA Hospice.
