Obituary

Vivian C. Wascher (nee Dersch) died on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the age of 86.
Vivian was born in Wakefield, Nebraska on February 27, 1928 to Leonard and Esther
(Bartels) Dersch. She attended county school at Park Hill school, and High School at
Wakefield High. She then attended Commercial Extension Business College in Omaha,
NE. She was employed at National Farm Loan Association in Wakefield. On October 6,
1946 she was married to W. T. (Bill) Wascher. They resided in Wakefield and later in
West Point, NE before moving to Prosser on January 1, 1957 where she resided for 57
years.
Vivian’s life interests were in music. She served in many offices of the church and was
organist at Messiah Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She was a life-time member of
the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
In Prosser, she was employed at Elfers-Lyon Pharmacy and later at Prosser Memorial
Hospital. After her employment she served as a volunteer Director of Volunteers at the
hospital and was active in many volunteer activities at the hospital as well as Nursing
Homes. She enjoyed helping people and often said she was a better giver than a
receiver.
She is survived by two sons, William (Bill) and Richard, and two daughters, Linda Eilers
and Peggy Schultz, plus their respective spouses. There are 8 grandchildren, 21 great
grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She had no brothers or sisters, but was
very close to her 5 younger cousins all living in the midwest.
A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 am at the
Prosser Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial service at Messiah
Lutheran Church in Prosser at 2:00 pm, Pastors Steve Larson and Kraig Gilkey
officiating. Vivian wished her memorials in lieu of flowers, to be given to the Lutheran
Women’s Missionary League Scholarship Fund (Washington/Alaska Division, Attn:
Sarah Edwards, 22021 SE 270th St., Maple Valley, WA 98038-7418) or the Prosser
Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund (c/o Foundation office, 723 Memorial St.,
Prosser, WA 99350) or the memorial of your choice.
