William H. Bourque, 88, of Litchfield, NH, went home to the Lord on Thursday, January 8, 2015. He was born June 14, 1926 in Lynn, MA, to Hilaire and Anna (Piche) Bourque. He attended public schools in Arlington, MA, and took classes at Harvard University. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Helen Melanson, the love of his life, in 1948. For 45 years, Bill proudly managed the family owned business, Medford Floor Covering in Medford, MA. He later acquired Bedford Floor Covering, Bedford, MA, and Shattuck Rug Co., Nashua, NH. He loved helping families furnish their homes with beautiful carpets and had hundreds of loyal customers who appreciated his keen artistic taste. Bill served for many years as a board member for the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford and as a member of the Medford Rotary Club. Bill and Helen enjoyed traveling abroad and stateside including two cross country road trips. They were avid tennis players for many years. He loved visits to his parents' summer home in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. After retirement and a move to New Hampshire, he enjoyed many hobbies including golf and building model trains and boats. He cherished the time he spent with family and friends.
Besides his loving wife, Helen, his family includes his adoring children: Theresa Sherlock and her late husband Stephen of Bartlett, NH, Christine Mirlocca and her husband Steven of Manchester, NH, Carol Donahue and her husband William of Ipswich, MA, Marilyn Butt and her husband Peter of Candia, NH, Gail McMahon and her husband Joel of Stoneham, MA, Robert Bourque and his wife Doris of Somerville, MA. He leaves his precious 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Paul Bourque and his wife Arlene, sisters Elaine Bradley and Claire Corbin and her husband Richard. He was predeceased by siblings Doris McKay and Norman Bourque. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Courville assisted living facility in Nashua for the tender care they gave to Bill over the last year. Bill was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
A calling hour was held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 10:30am-11:30am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH. A memorial service followed at 11:30am in the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in Hillcrest Cemetery, Litchfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
