Obituary

George passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side in Berlin, on January 6, 2015 following a short illness. He was born Sept 20, 1936 in Haverhill, N.H. the son of the late George W. and Della (Higgins) Lamarre.

Bill grew up in Berlin, N.H. and graduated from Berlin High School Class of 1955 where he was proud of his basketball career as point guard and his achievement as the Captain of the team. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Navy and served as a radioman aboard the destroyer U.S.S. O’Hare DDR-889 (1955-1959) and at the U.S. Naval Communication Facility located in Sidi Yahia, Morroco.

He was employed by The Berlin Police Department as an officer for four years. His career path then led him to a position in the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk for thirty-four years until his retirement in 2000.
He loved the North Country and at a younger age, fished, hunted, and camped. In recent times, he and his wife Cecile, enjoyed vacationing along the rocky coast of Maine and made many annual trips to the Bar Harbor area. Vegetable gardening was another summer past-time and he took special interest in his tomato harvest. He loved many sports and during the winter months enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics. Above all he was a proud family man and enjoyed the time spent together.

He is survived by his wife Cecile (Bilodeau) Lamarre of 52 years, their two children; David Lamarre and his wife Estelle (Frenette) of Colchester, CT; Paula (Lamarre) Labnon and her husband Scott of Gorham, NH; four grandchildren Danielle and Luke Lamarre; Brett and Julie Labnon. Bill is also survived by his siblings: Esther Cavagnaro of Southwest Harbor, ME, and Richard Lamarre and his wife Louise of Bristol, CT, brother-in-law, Dennis Bilodeau and his wife Cecile of Berlin, NH; a nephew, several nieces and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 10, 2015 at 10 AM at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish. Interment will follow in St. Kieran Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Ave., Berlin on Friday afternoon and evening from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
