Verna A. Gordon, 96, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, January 5, 2015 at Pruitt Health in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Crossview Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Parmer and the Rev. David Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 Friday evening, January 9, 2015, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gordon was born March 6, 1918, in Irwin County to the late William Walter & Lizzie McSwain Revels. She was a former employee of Fitzgerald Mills. Following the closing of the Mills, she earned her Nurse Aid III certification from Ben Hill-Irwin Tech. Mrs. Gordon did private duty nursing in homes in several counties as well as at Dorminy Medical Center and did private nursing for several Fitzgerald families. She retired at age 87 from private sitting. She was a former member of Callie Garbutt Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, a former member of Arbor Baptist Church and was currently a member of Crossview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons: James Terry Gordon and his wife Jane of Norcross and James Denny Gordon and his wife Sherry of Tallahassee, Florida; her grandchildren: Cynthia Gordon and husband Kevin Horty of New York City, New York, Christopher Manning Gordon and wife Kristy of Lilburn, James Howard “Howie” Gordon and wife Nola and James Denver Gordon and wife Kristi, all of Tallahassee, Florida; and great-grandchildren: James Aiden Gordon, Maddie Gordon, Nathan Manning Gordon, and Amelia Lucille Gordon. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Manning Gordon; her four brothers: J.T. Revels, N.E. Revels, Roy Revels, and an infant brother Hubert Revels, and her sister, Della Revels Clements.
