Obituary

Peter A. Levandowski, 95, of Bedford, NH, died Wednesday December 31, 2014 in Mt. Carmel Nursing Home in Manchester, NH. He was born in Peabody, MA on April 14, 1919, a son of the late Paul and Sophie (Madreiko) Levandowski. He had been a resident of Bedford for the past two years, formerly living in Derry, NH. Mr. Levandowski entered the US Navy in 1942 during WWII, and served aboard the USS Ozark (LSV2) and the USS Bainbridge (DD246) both in the Pacific and Atlantic. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. After his discharge from military service in 1946, he became employed by the US Agriculture Dept. as an agriculture inspector. He held this position for 30 years until retirement. During his youth he enjoyed fishing, trapping and golf. He had a love of horses, a great sense of humor and an uncanny wit. He enjoyed people and social gatherings. He was a kind and caring man that would extend help in anyway.
He is survived by two brothers, John J. Levandowski of Manchester, NH, and William Levandowski of Portland, ME; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Paul, Frank and Stanley Levandowski and Mary Worster.
There are no calling hours. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, January 6th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery in Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NH Catholic Charities, 215 Myrtle St., Manchester, NH 03104-4354. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
