WEBSTER – Henry T. “Hank” O’Brien, Jr., 75, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge after a period of declining health.
He leaves his wife, Loretta L. (Arling) O’Brien; a daughter, Dr. Christine O’Brien McGuinness of Oxford; a son, Shawn O’Brien of Dudley; and 5 grandchildren, Conor, Ian, Benjamin, Alexandria and Isabella. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 28 years, Pauline J. (Chennette) O’Brien in 1995 and also by his brother William Thomas O’Brien.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Henry T. O’Brien, Sr. and Mae C. (O’Brien) O’Brien. He lived in Worcester most of his life, moving to Webster in 1998. He graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and earned an Associate’s Degree from the New England School of Accounting.
Mr. O’Brien was an accountant at Reed and Prince Manufacturing in Worcester for many years. He was currently employed by Allied Barton Security Services in Natick as the senior security guard at the Natick Mall where he worked for 16 years.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He held a leadership position in the Cursillo Movement (whose motto is “Christ Is Counting On You”) of the Diocese of Worcester. His favorite activities were singing tenor in community groups, swimming, dancing and traveling to Maine.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street. Calling hours will be from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM in the Guadalupe Chapel at Sacred Heart Church. Military honors will be provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council after the Mass. Donations in his name may be made to Blessed Sacrament Chapel, 17 East Main Street, Webster, MA 01570. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
