Richard Dowdell, 71, of Medway, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at his home after a 15 month struggle with cancer. He was the devoted husband of Vicki (Walentuk) Dowdell.
Born in Milford, Dick was the son of the late Charles and Eida (Pozzi) Dowdell and graduated from Medway High School in 1961 and Boston University in 1965.
He spent 35 years working for the state, beginning with the Dept. of Youth Services, the State House and then the National Guard Headquarters in Milford.
Dick was a talented cook and enjoyed the serenity of fishing and playing golf with the Hobokens and his Sable Trace friends in North Port, Florida. He will be remembered for his generosity and sense of humor.
In addition to his wife of almost 50 years, he leaves one son Gregory Dowdell of Medway, one daughter Amy Allison and her husband Gregg of Boulder, Colorado and three grandchildren, Connor and Dean Allison of Boulder and Charles Dowdell of Medway.
He also leaves a brother William Dowdell and his wife Sue of Wilmington, Delaware and a brother-in-law Donald Walentuk of North Port.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Wednesday, January 7 from 11 a.m. - Noon in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at Noon.
Burial will take place privately at a later date.
