TEWKSBURY - William “Bill” Ewen, age 87, a resident of Tewksbury for five decades, died peacefully on Sunday evening, December 28, at Woodbriar of Wilmington, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the beloved husband for 57 years of Joan Claire (Cilley) Ewen, who died in August 2012.
Bill was born in Montpielier, Vermont, September 3, 1927, the son of the late William and Claire Doris (Ayers) Ewen. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during WW2, and was honorably discharged. He moved to Tewksbury in 1964 to raise his family.
Bill worked as a Sales Manager for Bond Shoe Company in Woburn, where he was an orthopedic Shoe Specialist.
He was a member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks, the Tewksbury Golden Age Club, the Tewksbury American Legion Post 259, and a frequent visitor to the Tewksbury Senior Center. Bill and Joan were active in the Thursday and Sunday Bingo Community.
He was an active member of the Tewksbury United Methodist Church, where he and his late wife enjoyed membership in the Couples Club, and relished their rolls as performers at the annual church variety show productions.
He is survived by three children, Dana P. Siegal and her husband Ed of Stoneham, Kenneth W. Ewen of Tewksbury, and Lynne J. (Miller) Caruso and her husband John of Pelham, NH; three grandchildren, Sabrina Fenton and her husband Jason of Arlington, Derek Miller of Pelham, NH, Chad Miller and his wife Mikaela Preston-Miller of Holden, MA; three great grandchildren, Nolan, Joseph, and Lily; a sister, Barbara Hastings and her husband Burt of VT; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours Friday, January 2, from 4 to 7 and Saturday, January 3, from 10 to 11 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. His Funeral Service will be held following Saturday morning visiting hours, at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home, followed by burial with Navy Honors in Tewksbury Cemetery. G.A.C.
