Susan E. Abell, 60, of Henderson, Nevada (formerly of Fitzgerald) passed away peacefully on December 26, 2014 at her home in Jacksonville, FL surrounded by family. She relocated to Jacksonville several months ago to be closer to family as well as her medical team at Mayo Clinic.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church, located at 402 South Merrimac Drive, Fitzgerald, GA. Dr. Michael Ruffin will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service at a reception in Burch Hall.
Susan was born June 24, 1954, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to Lois McBryant Eppes and the late Frank Eppes. A 1972 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, she received training and later worked as a dental assistant. She enjoyed traveling the world as a flight attendant for over 15 years with Air Tran and later Southwest. Her career path also included being an office manager at Brown Transport in Jacksonville, FL and working as a secretary to the General Superintendent of Fitzgerald Utilities. A vivacious woman, Susan had an adventurous spirit. She loved to shop and enjoyed searching for the perfect find. Her best times were spent with her family and friends reminiscing and sharing hugs. Susan, or Mimi as she was known by younger family members, will be remembered for the endless love and determining spirit that was shown in her smile. She was a member of First Baptist Church and dearly loved her Lord.
Susan is survived by her loving and devoted husband of five years, Michael O. Abell of Henderson, NV; her mother, Lois Eppes of Fitzgerald; her daughter, Melissa Cobb and boyfriend, Matt Johns of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren; KC Lehman (15) and Isabella Murray (6); sister, Jan Duncan & Mark and their children , Sara Beth Duncan (19) and Mark Duncan, Jr. (15), all of Middleburg, FL; and a brother, Keith Eppes & Linda of Orange Park, Florida and their children, Thomas Eppes & Brenda of Pensacola, FL and Mike Walker of Jacksonville, FL. Several extended family members also survive.
