LACONIA – Robert D. Taft, 96, of 60 Spring Street, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 in his home.
He was born on February 6, 1918 in Worcester, Mass., the son of the late Clarence W. and Gladys M. (Underwood) Taft, grandson of Wilbur G. Taft and Agusta (Gerry) Taft. Married to Dorothy V. (Newton) Taft on August 25, 1943. Robert served in the US Air Force as a WW II troop carrier crew chief of 436th group of the 79th squadron. A Nichols College graduate in business management, he worked for Leland Gifford for 25 years as a production manager and worked for Morgan construction until retirement as a material control manager.
He is survived by a son, David W. Taft and his wife Lela Taft, three Grandchildren; Christian Taft, Robert Maider and Stephanie Jean and her husband Peter H. Jean, four Great-Grandchildren; Jeffrey R. Harrison, Pvt. Patrick M. Harrison, Philip R. Gonyea, and Joshua D. Jean.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Newton) Taft in January of 2014 and two daughters, Carolyn E. Taft and Janice B. Sellers.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be private.
