Hilda “Gwynett” Hammock Dunn, 88, of Omega and Excelsior Community died Sunday, December 28, 2014, at Southern Care Assisted Living in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Chris House and Rev. Gary Griffin officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Dunn’s grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Dunn was born on February 12, 1926 in Johnson County and was the daughter of John Samuel Hammock and Ennie Bell Brantley Hammock, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edd Willard Dunn, who died in 2011; one daughter, Anna Rose Dunn; two brothers, Herman Hammock and John Everett Hammock; four sisters, Mary Sutton, Christine Smith, Edith Brantley and Carrie Bell Avery; and a great-grandson, Russ Carns. She lived in Scott, GA until the family moved to Omega in 1936. She was retired as a teacher’s aide and a long-time member of Omega United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Tift Regional Medical Center. She was devoted to her family and cared for her aging parents and her mother-in-law. She also loved to work in her yard and keep up her beautiful flowers.
Mrs. Dunn is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Joni Dunn and Johnny and Kay Dunn, all of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Wayne Warren of Omega; nine grandchildren, Rose Carns, Steve Warren, Sonya Fulp, Stacie Donaldson, John Dunn, Jr. Deidra Jackson, Jill Peed, Austin Dunn and Julee Beth Dunn; and nine great-grandchildren, Ross Carns, Kaytee Donaldson, Sam Donaldson, Ashton Fulp, Willard Fulp, Reagan Fulp, Madeline Jackson, Si Peed and Bo Peed.
