Doris Ruth Klay (McIntyre), age 97, passed away after a brief illness on December 27, 2014. Doris was born in Somerville, MA on December 19, 1917 and was the only child of Harold Floyd McIntyre and Louise Amalia (Kaiser) McIntyre. She lived most of her adult life in South Weymouth. Doris was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, George H. Klay and leaves her beloved son, Tracy Williams Klay, daughter-in-law Kim Klay and granddaughter Meredith Klay, all of Wellesley. She also leaves her longtime companion and special friend, Robert Johnson, of Weymouth.
Doris received her bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in education from Boston University and was an accomplished pianist. She taught third grade in both the Wellesley and Weymouth public school systems for many years until her retirement in 1976. She loved to spend summers on Cape Cod in the family home in Centerville. Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling with the local Recreation Club and dancing at the Viking Club with her friend Bob. She always treasured time spent with her son and his family and with the Johnson family, who welcomed her as an honorary member of their family.
Visiting hours will be at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant Street (Columbian Square), South Weymouth on Tuesday, December 30th from 6 to 8 PM and Wednesday, December 31st from 1 to 4 PM. There will be a private burial service at a later date.
