Alice R. (Marcoux) Davala, 91, formerly of Derry, NH, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 25, 2014, in Villa Crest Healthcare, Manchester, NH. She was born on January 12, 1923 in Exeter, NH, a daughter of the late Treffle and Hermina (Dupont) Marcoux. Alice graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Lewiston, ME in 1945 as part of the US Cadet Nurse Corp. She married Michael A. Davala on February 3, 1951 in Auburn, ME. They lived in Portland, ME for many years, where they raised two children. Alice worked as a registered nurse and then as a school nurse and special education assistance in the Portland, ME School System. She volunteered helping children to read in her retirement years. Alice was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was raising her children, caring for her grandchildren and spending time with her beloved husband Michael. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed music, reading and sewing.
She is survived by her son, David Davala and his wife Marcy of Manchester, NH, her daughter, Sally Dion and her husband Michael of Derry, NH, six grandchildren, Michael D. Davala, Leah Dion, James Dion, Lyndsay (Davala) Lamson and her husband Joshua, Ryan Davala, and Merisa Dion; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Michael Davala in 2008. She was also predeceased by her four sisters, Lillian Dupont, Mary Ouellette, Laurea Ouellette, and Annette Albert, and two brothers, George Marcoux and Arthur Marcoux.
Calling hours were held on Thursday, January 1, 2015 from 6 - 8 PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 10:00am in Holy Cross Church, Hampstead Road, Derry. Burial will be Monday, January 5, 2015, at 12:00 pm, in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, ME. Memorial contributions may be made in Alice’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
