Obituary

Walter E. O’Brien, Sr. age 83 of Brockton, formerly of Virginia and W. Virginia, died Sunday December 21, 2014 at his home under the care of his daughter and hospice. He was the husband of the late Constance L. (Marquis) O’Brien and Rose M. (Feroli) O’Brien. Born and raised in Brockton, Walter was the son of the late Edward and Ruth (Kingman) O’Brien and returned to the city ten years ago to make his home with his daughter Ruth O’Brien-Denly.
A graduate of Brockton schools, Walter worked for the US Capital Police in Washington, DC and retired in 1990 as a detective after 20 years of service. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, wildlife, boating, canoeing, wood working and coin collecting. He also enjoyed motorcycling and car restoration. Walter will be remembered as an intelligent and adventurous man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was a role model to many.
Walter’s true joy in his life was his family and he was most proud of his children’s accomplishments.
Walter is survived by his five children Ruth O’Brien-Denly of Brockton, Walter E. O’Brien, Jr. of Florida, Mark E. O’Brien of Phoenix, AZ, William Morgan of Houston, TX and Kevin Morgan Sr. of Sterling, VA. He leaves nine grandchildren Kyle O’Brien, Kayla O’Brien, Kelcey Rose O’Brien, Kevin Morgan, Jr., Kelly Morgan, Megan Morgan, Lauren Morgan, Courtney Morgan and Jean Bradley Derenoncourt and two great grandchildren. He was the brother of Leslie O’Brien of St. Petersburg, FL and the late Edward and Frank O’Brien and Meredith “Sue” O’Brien.
Interment will be held at a later date in Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester, VA. There are no local services. Please consider donations in Walter’s name to National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, VA 20190.
