Whitman – Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Whalen) Nolan, age 84, passed away unexpectedly at Brockton Hospital, Friday December 19, 2014 with her children at her side.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years John J. “Jack” Nolan; her brother John Whalen and her two sisters, Rita Sheehan and Mary “Patsy” Herbert.
Elizabeth is survived by her son Robert Nolan of Hull, her daughter Barbara Garvey and her husband Michael Viscio, Jr. of Whitman, and her two granddaughters whom she cherished, Erin Elizabeth Garvey of Whitman and Emily Thompson of Middleboro. She is also survived by a niece and several nephews and their children.
Elizabeth was born in Boston September 26, 1930 to the late John and Rita (Campbell) Whalen of Nova Scotia. She and her husband Jack moved to Abington where they raised their family. Elizabeth’s husband, home and family were the center of her life and brought her the greatest joy and contentment. She and Jack fostered a loving family atmosphere filled with kindness and humor. Elizabeth always had a unique fondness in her heart for those with special needs. She recognized and encouraged their individuality.
Elizabeth retired from Sigma Instruments in Braintree after many years as an electronics assembler. She was a talented crafter, loved to sew, and enjoyed participating in craft groups at the Whitman Senior Center. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.
Visiting hours will be held Friday December 26 from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. At Elizabeth’s request, all other services will be private.
