Noel Edward Almeida, 62, of New Bedford passed away on Thursday December 18, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Janet (Silva) Almeida
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Esther (Blake) Almeida, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
He was a graduate of New Bedford High School and attended Boston Architectural School.
Mr. Almeida had a 40 year career with New Bedford Gas and Edison Light Company/Commonwealth Gas/ NStar Companies where he worked as a LNG operator in Acushnet and regional gas sales representative/gas pipeline engineer. He also had been a real estate broker for William doCarmo Associates and an insurance agent for A.L. Williams/Primerica Financial Services.
He was a proud member and shop steward of the Brotherhood of Utility Workers 369. He was a committee member for Boys Scouts of America Troop 46 and past Cub Master for Pack 27.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons, Edward "Ned" Almeida and Daniel Blake Almeida; his sister, Deirdre Almeida; his father-in-law, Joseph P. Silva; his sister-in-law, Karen Azevedo; his niece, Mariah Almeida; and his nephews, Aaron, Julian, Jon Paul, and Andrew Azevedo.
He was the brother of the late John W. Edmonds.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
