Giovanni “John” Torre, of Westport died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was husband of the late Graziella “Grace” (Muscolino) Torre.
Born in Italy, he was son of the late Antonino and Lucia (Fichera) Torre. His dream of coming to America materialized after growing up in Sicily during WWII where U.S. troops liberated Italy. He raised his family in Queens and Nassau County, NY prior to moving to Westport in 1976. Prior to retirement, he had worked for Cliftex and Town & Country, both of New Bedford. Mr. Torre was a Communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport and was a member of the Sons of Italy. He enjoyed traveling and fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter: Lucy R. Tabit and her husband Richard of Westport; his son: Anthony “Joe” Torre of Westport; 4 grandchildren: Hana Tabit, Wyatt Torre, Marcus Torre and Isabella Torre; a sister: Dora Torre of Italy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Franco Torre and Maria Teresa Bucceri.
Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited will be Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 11:00 A.M.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 – 10:30 A.M. at the Potter Funeral Home prior to the Mass.
Interment will be private.
