SALEM- Ann (Antonopoulos) Zakas, 83, of Salem, formerly of Peabody, wife of the late James Zakas, died Friday afternoon, December 17, 2004 in the Salem Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born and raised in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Catherine (Youmateres) Antonopoulos. Upon her marriage, she moved to Peabody where she resided until moving to Salem in the late 1990's. She was a member of the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed in the leather industry in Peabody and Salem.
Mrs. Zakas is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Barbara Zakas of Essex, Aristotle Zakas of Australia, one granddaughter, Karla Zakas of Newport, Rhode Island, two brothers-in-law, Spiro and his wife Carol Zakas of Peabody, Angelo and his wife Barbara Zakas of Gloucester, one sister-in-law, Aileen L’Abbe of Danvers and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Bessie Mihelis.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at 9 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral service at 10 am at the St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 5 to 8 pm. Burial is in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
