Anna Mae Vrabel, 90, of Olyphant, died Monday morning at VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She is the widow of Michael P. Vrabel, who died in 1978.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Smarsh Kranick, she was a graduate of Olyphant High School. Mom was a Rosie the Riveter in Baltimore, Md., during World War II, assembling Hellcat and Avenger airplanes, her contribution to America's greatest generation war effort. Before her retirement, she worked at Pawnee Pants, Olyphant, and Linden Bakery at Weis Market, Peckville. She was a member of the Raymond Henry Post 327 American Legion Women's Auxiliary for the past 63 years.
Anna Mae was a member of Holy Ghost Church, now Holy Cross Parish, and was deeply devoted to praying the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet.
Surviving are her daughter and caregiver, Nancy, with whom she resided; a niece, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph; and two brothers, Joseph and Stephen Kranick.
The family would like to thank the VNA hospice nurses and staff for their care and compassion.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., Grant Street, Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, 200 Delaware Ave., Olyphant, with Monsignor Michael J. Delaney officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Blakely. Those attending the funeral services are asked to go directly to church.
