Obituary

Mary M. (Ellard) Govoni King, age 97, of Winchester, passed away December 16th, 2014. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronold W. P. King and Arthur A. Govoni. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Mary came to the United States with her family at age 3.

A resident of Winchester for over 70 years, she was very active in the community. Her children were born, raised and educated in town, and they, and her grandchildren, were the focus of her life, and a source from which she derived great joy.

In addition to raising her family, Mrs. King worked as a secretary for Houghton-Mifflin Publishing for many years. In Winchester, Mary was a member of the Parish of the Epiphany for over 50 years, and enjoyed participation in their annual Christmas Goose Fair and Rummage Sale. She volunteered at the front desk at the Jenks Center for 19 years, and was also a member of the En Ka Society and the Winchester Republican Club. In her spare time, Mary liked to crochet, especially afghans.

She was the loving mother of Beverley M. Griffin and husband David of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Sandra J. James and husband Thomas of Londonderry, NH, and the late Susan A. Dalton and her late husband Lawrence V. Dalton II. Mary was one of nine children, and is survived by her sisters; Marguerite East of FL and Rosemary Vogt of ME. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held in the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 4-7PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Dec. 19 at 10AM at the Parish of the Epiphany, 70 Church St. Winchester, MA 01890. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Parish of the Epiphany at the address listed above.
