Lori Kirkwood,80, of Brooklyn, CT, died Monday, December 15, 2014 at Cedar Crest Nursing Home in Cranston. She was the wife of Gerald J. Kirkwood. They had been married for 60 years
Born in Warren, RI, she was a daughter of the late Charles Bruscato and Dora (Lepine) Reed and Howard Reed. She had lived in Harmony, Smithfield and North Smithfield RI before moving to Brooklyn, CT.
She was the Founder and Director of the Dora C. Howard Center (1985) – a non-profit Adult Daycare Facility in Smithfield before retiring in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of quality, alternative care for seniors. The Dora C. Howard Center has the distinction of being the First Licensed Adult Day Care Center in the State of Rhode Island.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sons: Chris Kirkwood and his wife, Lisa of New Jersey, Matthew Kirkwood and his wife, Nancy of California and the late Jeffrey Kirkwood, her five grandchildren: Christopher, Emma, Michael, Rebecca and Hannah Kirkwood and her siblings: Gene Bruscato of Jewitt City, CT and Jacqueline Carey of North Providence.
Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Friday, December 19, at 9am in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Georgiaville. Burial will be in Acote’s Hill Cemetery in Chepachet. Visitation repectfully omitted.
