...Tewksbury Baptist Church; B.S.A. Troop Leader; Lions; age 71
TEWKSBURY - Richard George “Dick” James, age 71, an active member of the Tewksbury
community, died Thursday morning, Dec. 16, at Saints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell after a
lengthy illness. He was the husband of Lola I. (Bissey) James, with whom he had celebrated a
47th wedding anniversary this past Jan. 26th.
He was born in Everett, June 22, 1933, a son of the late Leslie and Doris (Fales) James. He was
raised in Everett and graduated Everett High School in 1951. He matriculated to Northeastern
University, where he earned a B.S. B.A. Degree.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
He worked his entire business career as a bank manager for several area banks.
He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Tewksbury, where he served in many
positions, including Financial Secretary and Deacon, and had also served as treasurer of the
Tewksbury Interfaith Group.
He was active in Boy Scouts of America, and served in many positions including Scoutmaster of
Troop 322, based at the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge.
He was also a member of the Tewksbury Lions Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Carmel (Connell)
James of Townsend, David and Lixandra (Mendez) James of Derry, NH, Bruce and Julie
(LaChance) James of Londonderry, NH; a daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and George Hunt of
Lowell; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Kenneth Layman of San Diego, CA; nine
grandchildren, Carmel, Kevin, Pamela, Ian, Aaron, and Janelle James, Christopher and Jennifer
Hunt, and Matthew LaChance; and many nieces and nephews.
He was anticipating the birth of his tenth grandchild in May.
His Funeral Service was held Monday, Dec. 20, in the First Baptist Church of
Tewksbury. Burial was at Tewksbury Cemetery.
