James P. O'Malley, 82, of Dartmouth died December 14, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Dolores (Vargas) O'Malley.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of the late John J. and Catherine C. (Brennan) O'Malley, he lived in Dartmouth for the last 51 years.
Mr. O'Malley was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
After graduating from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1959, Mr. O'Malley was employed as a pharmacist at Guba's Pharmacy for 29 years, and at Brooks Pharmacy for 10 years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, James O'Malley and his wife Mary of Whitehouse Station, NJ, Brendan O'Malley and his partner Christina Schwarz of Brooklyn, NY; 3 daughters, Sharon O'Malley, Catherine Sawyer and her fiancé Scott Amorin, of Dartmouth and Monica O'Malley-Tavares and her husband Kevin of Mattapoisett; 8 grandchildren, Allison, Caitlin, Lauren, Mathew, Patrick, Noah, Callie, and Caroline; a great-grandson, Carter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late John J. O'Malley, Jr. and a twin brother, Robert O'Malley.
James was a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, enjoyed bird watching, gardening, playing cribbage with his daughter, and spending time with his grandchildren.
His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 17th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, December 16th from 4-7 PM. Donations may be made to to the Fatima Center, Servants of Jesus and Mary, 17000 State Road 30, Constable, NY 12926 or the Social Concerns Ministry at St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth Street in Dartmouth.
