…Raytheon; Tewksbury Fin-Com; age 81
TEWKSBURY - Norman Elwin Gay, 81, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, early Sunday morning, Dec. 14, at Langdon Place in Nashua, NH, where he had been a resident for the past year. He was the beloved husband of Claire R. (Nau) Gay, with whom he had celebrated a 56th wedding anniversary this past May 3rd.
He was born in Brunswick, Maine, on April 19, 1933, one of two sons of the late Elwin and Anna (Allen) Gay. His family moved to Somerville in Norman’s infancy. He was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School.He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, aboard the USS Maloy, earned the National Defense Service Medal, and was honorably discharged in 1956. Upon his marriage in 1958, he moved to Tewksbury to raise his family.
He began his career at Middlesex Bank in Tewksbury Center, then changed Careers and worked for Brinks Armored Car Company.He eventually retired from the Security Department at Raytheon, after working at the Apple Hill Tewksbury and West Andover divisions. After his retirement he worked at O'Connor Hardware in Billerica.
He served on Tewksbury’s Finance Committee for many years, and also served with Tewksbury’s Auxiliary Police. He also worked to support his family at Aubut’s Liquors when the store was in the Elm Farms shopping center.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Dianne L. Scaduto and her husband John of Naples, FL, Brenda A. Allan and her husband Mark of Windham, NH, Carolyn M. Sullivan and her husband Brian of Windham, NH, Patricia E. Gay of Billerica; five grandchildren, Michael Scaduto, Nicholas Scaduto, Carissa Sikora, Garrett Allan, and Connor Sullivan; two great grandchildren, Caydence and Brielle; two Brothers-in-law, Robert Bavota of Wilmington, Albert Nau of Framingham and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Bernard Gay, of Somerville.
Memorial visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 28, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 29, at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury.
