Joseph Volante, of Medford passed away peacefully on December 11, 2014 at the Bear Hill Nursing Home in Stoneham, following a lengthy illness. He was 73. Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Angela (Valente). Born in Cassino, Italy, Joseph was one of four sons of the late carmine and Caterina (Angelosanto) Volante.
Joseph came to the United States in 1961 and settled in Medford. He was a talented mechanic and worked for several years specializing in heavy equipment repair. In 1976 he cofounded and was a co-owner of the Volsar Automotive Co. and worked the business for many years prior to his retirement. Mostly devoted to his family, Joseph enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He was a former member of the Winchester Sons of Italy. Joseph will fondly be remembered for his love of family, storytelling, and his warm personality.
In addition to his late wife, Joseph is predeceased by his brothers, Antonio, Dante and Cosmo Volante. He is survived by his children, Dario Volante and his wife Connie of Lynnfield, Sandra Volante of Tewksbury, and Tina D'Alfonso and her husband Gus of Wilmington. He was the loving grandfather of Katrina and Andrew Volante, Nicholas, Brianna and Daniel D'Alfonso. Brother-in-law of Lina Saragosa of Medford. Dear friend of Connie Grassini of Medford and further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Tuesday, December 16th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 4 thru 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to the Mass General Hospital, Development Office,100 Cambridge St., Suite 1310, Boston, MA 02114.
