Obituary

Leaving those who love him considerably poorer for his absence, Michael John Leonardo of Swansea, MA departed this life on December 10, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Fall River, MA in 1950, he was the son of the late John and Alice (Torres) Leonardo.

A graduate of Durfee High School and the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, his career in the binder industry spanned three decades, first at Elbe File in Fall River and then as a founding partner of Advanced Looseleaf Technologies in Dighton, MA. His passion for his work was valued by his colleagues and business associates, who helped celebrate his recent retirement.

A communicant of St. Louis de France parish in Swansea, he relished his role in parish life, as Eucharistic Minister and as an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He particularly enjoyed his work with them at this time of year, helping to bring assistance and happiness to families in need.

An avid golfer and fisherman, he was a member of the Montaup and Knights of Columbus leagues.

He is survived by his son Anthony, Anthony’s wife Catherine, and grandson Alexander. Also, his sister Janice Choiniere, brother in law, Ronald Choiniere, and nephews, Justin Choiniere and Jonathan Ferreira. In addition, his stepdaughter Jennifer Perry, her husband Keith, and step-grandchildren Courtney and Kevin, as well as his former wife and caregiver, Denise Leonardo. His godfather, Gerald Silvia and wife Lillian, numerous cousins and an extended circle of friends also mourn his loss.

Michael’s effect on the people in his life will be long lasting. His kindness and ability to see and address the needs of others endeared him to many who will not soon forget his impact on their lives.

His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on MONDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Louis de France Church, Swansea at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Louis de France Rectory, 56 Buffington St., Swansea, MA 02777.
