Obituary

Gertrude “Gwen” Godbout, 94, of Manchester, died December 11, 2014 at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Francesville, IN on December 8, 1920, she was the daughter of Roy and Edith Myers . She earned her nursing degree from Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago, IL.
During WWII, she served aboard the hospital ship, the USS Hope from 1943 until the end of the war. One of her vivid memories was providing compassionate nursing care to the POW survivors of the Bataan Death March.
She had been employed as a registered nurse at the Elliot Hospital for more than 20 years.
Gwen loved reading, antiquing and was an avid yard sale visitor for many years. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. Whenever babysitting, she loved to play games with them, spend endless hours of reading with them, and always instilled upon them the value of education. Not only did all of her grandchildren graduate from college, many went on to receive master and doctorate degrees.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Paul E. Godbout in 1994.
Family members include her sons, Paul Godbout and wife Nancy of Goffstown, Philip Godbout and wife Eileen of Manchester, Rick Godbout and wife Aroline of Manchester ; one daughter, Patricia Keith and husband Steven of Peabody, MA; her grandchildren, Aimee, Paul and wife Krystyna, Adam, Jonathan and wife Monica, Peter and wife Jill, Benjamin and wife Melanie, Emily and husband Daniel, Casey and Steven; great-grandchildren, Haley, Hannah, Tori, Thomas, Jack, Elise, Eva, Pierce, Mason and Teddy; her siblings, Virgil Myers of Francesville, IN, Mabel Brown of Monon, IN, Maude Allyn of San Antonio, TX, Jeanne Hawn of Lakewood, CO, and Norma Hamel of Angola, IN; 22 nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, December 15, 2014 in Parish of the Transfiguration, Kelley St. Urn burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester.
