Obituary



BUXTON (GROVEVILLE) – John “Jack” A. Hanna Jr., passed away at his home on December 9, 2014.
He was born in Portland on June 24, 1944, a son of the late John Sr. and Dorothy (Durgin) Hanna.
After graduating from the first class of Bonny Eagle High School in 1962, Jack went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy. Jack served aboard the submarine USS John Marshall during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Jack went on to work in Westbrook as millwright at SD Warren.
He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and practical jokes. Jack enjoyed being a freelance TV critic, riding his Harley-Davidson, tinkering on his 1955 Thunderbird, spending time at the Donut Hole, and having coffee with his sons on Sunday mornings.
Jack was very passionate about the Town of Buxton and recently served on the Board of Appeals.
He is predeceased by a daughter- Julie Ann Hanna; and siblings- Phyllis Roberts and Patricia Tyler.
He is survived by his children- Lance Hanna and his wife Maryjo of Buxton, Patrick Hanna and his wife Tracie of Buxton, Jason Hanna of Buxton, and Christina Woodbrey of Westbrook; siblings- George Hanna and his wife Katheryn of Buxton and Joanne Vetro of Buxton; as well as many grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 18, from 2-4 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22), Buxton. A graveside service with military honors will be held in the spring at Highland Cemetery in Groveville. Online condolence messages can be submitted at www.mainefuneral.com
In lieu of flowers, Jack's family strongly suggests that memorial donations be made to the Town of Buxton – War Memorial Upkeep Fund, 185 Portland Rd., Buxton, Maine 04093.
