Obituary

Edward A. Lopes, 96, of New Bedford died December 9, 2014 peacefully at Royal Taber Street Nursing Home.
He was the husband of the late Amelia G. (Vieira) Lopes.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Augusto and Eugenia (Alemao) Lopes, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Lopes was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He was formerly employed by Berkshire-Hathaway before retiring from Revere Copper and Brass.
Mr. Lopes enjoyed dancing and word search puzzles.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Survivors include a son, Edward Lopes, Jr. of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Beverly Penha and her husband George and Dorothy Lopes, all of New Bedford and Jeannette Santos of Marion; 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late John Lopes and the brother of the late Caroline Soares, Eduardo, Antonio, Thomas, Julio, Rose, Antone, Andre, John and Albert Lopes.
His Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, December 12th from 4-8 PM.
