Obituary

READING: Margaret M. (Grunzweig) DiTrapano, 82, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. She was the beloved wife of the late Angelo “Angie” DiTrapano with whom she shared over fifty years of marriage and the loving mother of the late Stephen M. DiTrapano.

Margaret also known as ‘Midge” to her family and as ‘Maggie” to her friends was born in Buffalo, New York on May 4, 1932 and was a twin to her late sister, Barbara (Grunzweig) Russell. She was the daughter of the late Peter A. and Elizabeth R. (Jellinick) Grunzweig.

Margaret was a resident of Sebastian Florida for the last twenty-four years and had previously resided on Brook Street in Reading where she and Angie raised their two children. She worked as an Account Manager for the Cardiac Surgery Department for the Massachusetts General Hospital for many years until her retirement. Margaret was a talented woman who exhibited great skill in the hobbies she chose to do. Whether it was knitting, needlepoint or quilting she put all her passion into it. She especially excelled in painting and while she was a patient in the Sawtelle Family Hospice House she chose to donate a painting to hang for others to enjoy. She also loved tending to her yard in Florida and was an avid dog lover and especially cherished her toy Shitzu, Emme also known as her “baby”. Emme brought much joy, comfort and companionship to her for the last twelve years. Her daughter, Lisa will continue to love and take care of Emme for her mother.

She was a woman who had a flair for fashion and especially loved buying jewelry. Whether it was costume jewelry or finer pieces and there were many of them, each was as equally beautiful in her eyes. She was known for doting on her children, grandchildren and family and will be remembered for being generous and kind.

She is survived by and was the loving mother of, Lisa DiTrapano; cherished grandmother of three grandchildren, Eric Arsenault and Jonathan and Sarah DiTrapano; sister of Bette Newton, Suzanne Moore and Michael A. Grunzweig and his wife, Virginia; mother-in-law of, Karen DiTrapano; sister-in-law of Sally Grunzweig and aunt to many loving nieces and nephews. Margaret was also predeceased by her brother, Peter A. Grunzweig and her brother-in-law, Arthur DiTrapano.

A Funeral Mass for Margaret will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street, Reading. There will be no visiting hours and burial will take place at a later date in Florida. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Margaret’s memory to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844 or to the charity of one’s choice
