Obituary

Retired Boston Firefighter, Edward W. "Eddie" Lynch Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Friday, December 5, 2014. He was 71 years old.

Eddie was born in Boston on January 25, 1943, a son of the late Edward W. Lynch and Catherine F. (Creedon) Lynch. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1961. Eddie enlisted into the United States Army on December 3, 1962 and served his country with courage and dignity during the Vietnam Conflict. He was discharged on December 2, 1968 with the rank of Specialist-4. In 1971, Eddie joined the Boston Fire Department and served the City of Boston and his entire career with Engine Company # 32 in Charlestown. He retired in 2006 after 35 years of dedicated service to the City of Boston and was a member of The Boston Firefighters Union Local # 718. He was Past Grand Knight and longtime member of Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus and member of the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association. Eddie was very involved in Charlestown youth activities and was associated with Charlestown youth hockey and a founding member of the Charlestown lacrosse program. He took great pride in his earlier years when he refereed hockey games for over 40 years knowing he was fair to every player on the ice during a game. He was a member of USA Hockey Officials Program and Ice Hockey Officials Association. Following his retirement from the Boston Fire Department, Eddie found great pleasure and interest as an usher at Agganis Arena at Boston University and Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox.

Eddie is the loving husband of 46 years to Alice M. (Heatley) Lynch. He is the devoted father of Marytheresa Lynch of Charlestown, Erin Lynch of Boston and Liam Lynch of Charlestown. He is the loving Papa to Allison McIntosh. He is the beloved brother of Jean Lynch of Charlestown, John "Jake" Lynch of Charlestown and Catherine Freeman of Arizona. He is the beloved son-in-law of the late Albert and Alice Heatley. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ed's Funeral on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from 3 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
