Grovetown, GA---Mrs. Dovie Jean “Snookie” Thomason Walker, 81, entered into rest on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, December 8, 2014 in the Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with Rev. Dennis Dickey officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Born November 20, 1933 in Union Mills, NC, she was a graduate of Alexander Schools Incorporated of Union Mills, NC and the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1955. She was a BSN nurse at the V.A. Hospital in Augusta, GA, where she retired and also worked at Spartanburg University and at Talmadge Hospital of Augusta. A loving, hardworking, much loved mother, who always put her family first and raised all of her children to be Christians. She was an avid gardener and especially loved roses and azaleas. Mrs. Walker was a charter member of the Martinez Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilliam Allen Walker, daughter, Pamela Gail Walker, parents, George Henry Grady and Rose Ellen “Bessie” Edney Thomason. She was the third youngest of 10 children and was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, James Lee Thomason, Levi Caldwell Thomason and Franklin McArthur Thomason and 3 sisters, Sarah Ellen Gaines, Nellie Aileen Cato and Stella Mae Morrow.
She is survived by 3 sons, Timothy Scott Walker, David Brian Walker and Gregory Allen Walker, four daughters, Angela Dawn Avret (James, Deceased), Leslie Kay Coffee (Johnnie, Deceased), Letitia Renee Darisse and Jennifer Lynn Walker (Greg Avery), brother, George Grady Thomason, sisters, Hattie Rebecca Lowery, Margaret Christine Sanders, 4 grandchildren, Sarah Sivley (Justin), Scott Alan Walker (Samantha), Jessica Lynn Walker and Austin Riley Walker and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Platt’s Belair Road.
