Beloved husband of the late Elaine A. (Martineau) Zoia. Loving father of Janet & her husband Jim Campbell of Hull, Joanne Kelly of Wollaston, Carol & her husband Robert Goward of NH, Cheryl & her husband David Paul of FL, Beverly Gregory of Quincy, Barbara & her husband Stephen Younie of Randolph, Paul Zoia and his wife Claudia of FL, Regina & her husband Paul Galasso of TX, Rhonda & her husband Joe Nickley of Abington, Gregory Zoia and his wife June of NH, Gayle & her husband Dimitri Ayoub of Quincy, Dean Zoia and his wife Christine of N. Quincy, and the late Peter J. Zoia, Jr. Brother of the late Margaret Burke, Amando Zoia, and Nicholas Zoia. Also survived by 27 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Keohane Funeral Home 785 Hancock St. , WOLLASTON Friday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, N. Quincy at 10 AM.
Visiting hours Wednesday 6-9 PM and Thursday 3- 8 PM.
Burial in Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy.
Peter worked at Pneumatic Scale in Quincy for 18 and a half years followed by Instron Engineering in Canton for 22 Years, retiring in 1979. He played football for North Quincy High School in 1933, 1934 and 1935. He was Captain in 1935 and All Scholastic halfback in 1934. Pete was the only player to play in the first three (1933, 1934 and 1935) North Quincy vs. Quincy football games. Pete's N.Q. teams never lost to Quincy High School. He played for the North Quincy Alumni Football , they were city champs and Pete was a player and coach. He played for the Quincy Varsity Club and they were state semi-pro champs, Pete was the captain and coach. He played for the President City Club semi-pro team were he was halfback and Captain. In total Pete played football for 16 years. He coached North Quincy Junior High in 1943 and Quincy Point Junior High in 1944. He was the Co-founder and President of the Quincy Youth Football League. He was Statistician and President of South Shore Baseball League. He was a coach for many years at Quincy Youth Baseball. For the past several seasons Pete has been an Assistant football coach at North Quincy High School first under Coach David Burke followed by Coach Ken McPhee. Mr. Zoia covered high school football and basketball for the Patriot Ledger. For the past several years he covered sports for the Quincy Sun. Pete was president of the Parker School PTA, President of the North Quincy High Football Boosters Club, President of Instron Credit Union, President of the Quincy-North Quincy Football Hall of Fame of which he was the first player to be inducted. Pete was a Eucharistic Minister and former parish Council member at Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy.
