Obituary

Philip G. David, of New Bedford died on December 2, 2014, peacefully at St. Luke's Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was the devoted husband of the late Shirley R. (Rossie) David.
Born and raised in New Bedford, he was the son of the late George G. and Rose (Joseph) David. He lived in New Bedford his entire life.
Mr. David was a devoted Catholic who was an active member and communicant of the Maronite Church, Our Lady of Purgatory Church.
Mr. David graduated with a degree in Accounting from Bryant College. He then worked for the Federal Government as comptroller at the Otis Air Force Base and the Naval Base in Newport, RI, for many years. In 1981, Mr. David left this field and opened his own family business from scratch, the Philip G. David Insurance Company. He loved working there and eventually was proud to have his son, Philip Jr. operate this business by his side. He was also active in the Bristol County Sheriff's Department, where he was a Deputy Sheriff for numerous years.
Mr. David served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved walking around Buttonwood Park, participating in local politics, making trips to the dog track and watching the Boston Red Sox; he rarely missed a game. He was extremely proud of his Lebanese heritage. Phil was known as a very generous person and always looked for ways to help other people.
Survivors include his son, Philip David, Jr. and his fiancée Maria Bomba of East Taunton; a daughter, Rose Schwartz, and her husband, William of Lakeville; 2 grandchildren, Grace Schwartz and William Schwartz, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also the brother of the late Anne David and Nancy David.
His Funeral will be held on Monday, December 8th at 9:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Divine Liturgy at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Purgatory Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, December 7th from 3-6 PM.
