Benjamin F. Oliver, 94, of New Bedford died December 1, 2014 at New Bedford Health Care Center after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Delgado) Oliver.
Born in Berkley, son of the late Frank and Laura (Canto) Oliver, he lived in East Freetown for most of his life before moving to Whaler's Cove in New Bedford 6 years ago.
Mr. Oliver was formerly employed by Stillwater Associates for many years until his retirement.
He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II in New Guinea and the Philippines in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations with the 713th Medical Service Company.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Freetown Memorial Post 6643 and the Freetown Council on Aging.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Diane Lavoie, and her husband André of Westport, Kathleen Oliver Wright and her husband Pat of New Bedford, and Cynthia Oliver Conward and her husband Walter of Dartmouth; 4 grandchildren, Marc Lavoie, Kelly Conward Johnson, Eric Williams and Aaron Williams; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Carol Lopes, grandfather of the late Corey Conward and the brother of the late John Oliver, Mary Rocha, Alice Costa and Georgina Pina.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, December 4th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd from 3-6 PM.
