John J. Toomey, age 89, of Brockton, died peacefully at his home, Thursday November 27, 2014. John was the loving husband for 54 years of Carol A. (Hawkins) Toomey. Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Joann (Hallissey) Toomey. He was a graduate of Brockton High School and Bentley School of Accounting. John was a WWII veteran who served in the Navy. For over 30 years, he had been employed as an accountant at Rothstein Corporation in Woburn, retiring in 1993. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golf, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Carol, John is survived by his children Susan Dwyer and her husband Jerry of Newton, Debra Chalmers and her husband Andrew of Conway, NH, Edward Toomey of San Diego, CA and Mark Toomey and his wife Jennifer of Naugatuck, CT; seven grandchildren, Jerry Dwyer, Jr., Jennifer Dwyer, Ethan Chalmers, Christian Toomey, Jessica Ellis and Jacob and Emma Toomey. He was the brother of William and Gerald Toomey of Brockton, and the late Mary Toomey.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday 9-10am, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30am.
