Obituary

POLLINA, Frances I, (Shea), of Winthrop and Boston, November 27, 2014, at the age of 76, was gracious, generous and loving with a dry sense of humor along with a quick wit. She enjoyed reading, seeing movies and hanging out with her friends at Overlook Drive - where her extraordinary friends Carol Pullin and Linda Carlisle were like angels during her times of need. Born in Boston to Sheila (Julia) nee Clifford and John Shea, both of Ireland, she was the 5th of six children. In the late 50's Fran met her husband, Joseph Pollina and moved to Chicago, where they raised their family. Boston was always home though and she moved back to Winthrop where many relatives resided. Frances ran a successful business providing services to residents of Beacon Hill prior to retirement. What she liked most, however, was spending time with her grandchildren. Her grandson Tim once commented "she's so cool... it's like she's not even a grandmother". Survived by her sister Sheila Patricia (Joseph) Sullivan of Canton, daughter Donna (James) Vitale of Winthrop, son David (Lisa) Pollina of Swampscott and daughter Jeannie (Steve) Jacobs of Des Plaines, IL. Proceeded in death by her beloved son John Pollina, who passed away in 2006. She will be greatly missed by many, including her two grandchildren Timothy Hellstern and Alicia Vitale. A Graveside Service will be held at the Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section), on Fri, December 5, at 11:30am. Relatives and friends are invited. Donations in her name can be made to the Massachusetts General Hospital c/o the Development Office 55 Fruit St. Boston, MA. 02114. Funeral arrangements are from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St. Winthrop. For guestbook, please visit www.mauricekirbyfh.com.
