Stanley William Whipple, 93, of Gales Ferry died Friday, November 28, 2014 at Pendleton Healthcare in Mystic. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred (Saunders) Whipple.
He was born on March 6, 1921 in Ledyard, the son of Emerson and Nora (Massey) Whipple. He attended Groton schools, graduating from Fitch Senior High School in 1938. He worked at Electric Boat before joining the US Navy Seabees serving from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. After he was discharged, he worked on the family farm for 22 years until he became a member of Local 777 Union Plumbers and Pipefitters. He retired on January 1, 1986.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 children; daughter Susan Traphagen and sons James, David, Robert, and Lee Whipple. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; Patricia Traphagen and Kelly, Nathan, Gregory, Rachel, and Erica Whipple.
He is survived by his siblings: sister Loraine Patterson of Port Charlotte, FL, brother Russell Whipple of Groton, and sister Margery Rabon and her husband William of Gales Ferry.
He is predeceased by his son, Jay Whipple who died on June 26, 2014.
Per his wishes, burial will be private for the family.
