John "Gus" Augusta, Jr., 94, of Dartmouth, formerly of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the husband of the late Fernanda (Pacheco) Augusta.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late John and Adeline (Jesus) Augusta. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church, where he had been an usher for forty years.
Mr. Augusta was the former owner and operator of J.A.'s Television Repair, and had also been employed at Fiske Tire Company, J.I. Paulding Company, Braley's Dairy, and Clover Bay.
He enjoyed spending time with his with his family and friends and vacations to New Hampshire.
Suvivors include his daughter, Patricia Whalley of Dartmouth and her husband Wayne, whom he affectionately called the son he never had; his sister, Silvina Thatcher of San Diego, CA; his granddaughter, Tricia Livesey and her husband Scott of Dartmouth; three great-grandsons, Nicholas, Jacob and Brendan; close family friend, Margaret Cruickshanks and family of Scotland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Victor Augusta and Joseph Augusta, and his sisters, Mary Medeiros, Margaret Amaral, and Emily Simmons.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM in Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Burial will follow in Acushnet Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 5-8 PM. For directions and guestbook, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
