Obituary

SACO- Hio Leng (Stella) Wong, 66, of Saco, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2014. She suffered a sudden stroke, but died peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME.

Stella came to the United States from Hong Kong with her daughter, Winnie, in the early 1980’s to provide a better life for her daughter. She met Countryman (Cats) Wong, and he fell in love with both mother and daughter. Stella and Cats married in 1984 and lived in Tucker, GA where they became active members of Atlanta Chinese Christian Church and remained so for a number of years.

In 2004, Stella suffered a mini-stroke and moved to Southern Maine with her daughter and son-in-law, Jose. They relocated to the West Palm Beach area in Florida in October 2007, and returned to Saco, Maine in February 2013. In September 2012, Stella was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Thalia. In the two years they spent together, Stella and Thalia loved to play and talk together. They particularly enjoyed taking walks around the neighborhood and watching videos with children’s songs on the iPad together. Stella also loved to share food with Thalia, and never liked eating in front of her if they weren’t both eating.

Everyone who knew Stella, knows that she was a very straightforward person. They also know that she had a very kind and generous heart. So while she would not hesitate to tell someone they were overweight, she would also not hesitate to share her food with that person when they were hungry – and insist that they have all of the good stuff from her plate. Stella truly loved to lend a helping hand and to give to others even when she didn’t think she had much to give. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and using any of the latest gadgets from when cordless phones first came about to camcorders in the 1990s to the most recent iPads. Being able to share her skills in any of those things was the cherry on top of it all.

She was predeceased by her husband, Countryman (Cats) Wong, on August 22, 1992.

She is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Winnie, Jose, and Thalia Paulino, of Saco, Maine.

Services will be private amongst her family.
