Obituary



WESTBROOK- Joseph P. Laflamme of Westbrook passed away on November 25th after a long battle with COPD at his home. He had just celebrated his 86th birthday. Joe was well known and widely respected as a saxophonist, teacher and instrument repair technician. He began playing music at the age of four and continued sharing his talents throughout his life.
Joe toured throughout the United States with the Buddy Morrow bans in the 1950's. He has played in numerous bands throughout New England, but is most widely known for his work with Don Doane. He also played with Tony Boffa, Ray Pinette, Al Corey, The Portland Symphony, Phil Rich, and The Mount Washington Orchestra. He has played for many well-known celebrities including: Helen O'Connell, Margaret Whiting, Lionel Hampton, Pat Boone, Red Skeleton, Liberace, and many others.
He was predeceased by his parents Roy A. Laflamme and Helen McGinnis of Sanford. His former wife Claire Thibodeau, and his daughter Denise Laflamme of Riverside California. He leaves behind his wife Iris Bley Laflamme, his children Martina Mitchell and husband David Mitchell and Andrew Laflamme; His daughter Susan Ouellette and husband Dennis ; grandchildren Laura Hughes and Rosalie El Ouardi of Texas and many other beloved relatives. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life to honor Joe will be held this Saturday, Nov. 29 from 2-4 PM at the First Lutheran Church, 132 Auburn St., Portland.
